Chương 90: _【+】(90)

_【+】(90)

Seeing Li Xin instantly bristle like a ruffled chicken, Qu Wei started to laugh. "Alright, alright, you're not. My mistake. It seems spending too much time with ancient tombs has made my thinking fall behind the times."

Seeing Qu Wei's comical, smiling face as he repeatedly conceded, Li Xin's anger dissipated before it could even rise. She rolled her eyes and suddenly changed the subject. "By the way, why did you give up being a noble to become a tomb raider? Although this profession represents high profits, but..." Before she could finish, Li Xin abruptly stopped. She had just said something completely unnecessary.

Seeing that Li Xin seemed to understand in an instant, Qu Wei smiled. "What's so good about being part of a family like that? It's not as carefree as tomb raiding. Besides, you said it yourself, this profession is highly profitable. It provides a good source of income for my expenses. It's very free."

Li Xin nodded at his words. Freedom, that's what she wanted. But it seemed she was getting further and further away from that word now. Would there be freedom with Qi Mo? No. But, it seemed she wasn't so resistant to it anymore, even though she still desperately wanted freedom.

Looking up at Qu Wei's smiling face, Li Xin suddenly felt uncomfortable. She stood up abruptly. "Then you rest and recuperate well. If you need anything, just tell the servants. I doubt they'd dare to step on you. I'm leaving now." As she spoke, she started walking out.

After hearing the reason for Qi Mo's hatred of women, although she knew Qi Mo was no longer that weak little boy, she still felt uneasy. It wasn't quite pity, and she didn't think it was sympathy either. Applying those two words to Qi Mo felt strange, so strange it was hard to imagine. For a moment she thought it was sympathy, but on second thought, it definitely wasn't. It was a very annoying emotional fluctuation that she couldn't put her finger on, only feeling agitated and annoyed. Damn it, what was this emotion?

Qu Wei didn't stop Li Xin from leaving. He smiled and said, "Come chat with me when you have nothing to do. This place is really boring." Li Xin simply nodded and left without looking back.

Qu Wei watched Li Xin's retreating figure, a slow smile forming on his lips. This child was kind-hearted, stronger on the inside than she appeared on the outside. Her thoughts were unique and precise, able to see the essence of things. She was worldly-wise when it came to people, but a complete mess when it came to feelings.

He had thought he could influence her emotionally, make her understand. But now it seemed to have little effect. She was even more clueless than he had imagined. But that was fine too. Just as she had said, Qi Mo didn't need pity or sympathy, and he certainly didn't need hers. He had told her only because he wanted this person, who was a special existence to Qi Mo, to understand him a little more.

Qi Mo had many subordinates, and no shortage of loyal ones. Hong Ying, Huang Ying—any one of them was probably more loyal to Qi Mo than Li Xin. Qi Mo no longer needed so many loyal subordinates. What he needed was a woman who knew him, who could accompany him, who could support him, who could love him, who could be with him for a lifetime. But it seemed neither of them understood this point. Qi Mo didn't understand, or rather, had no feelings, while Li Xin's mind was a one-track road. Qu Wei shook his head and sighed. His task was long and arduous.

Thieving Passion, Main Text, Chapter 90: A Rival in Love Arrives

Chapter Word Count: 8734 Update Time: 08-12-06 15:40

Returning to Qi Mo's villa in a slightly gloomy mood, Li Xin thought for a long time but couldn't figure out why she was feeling down. After getting nowhere, Li Xin maintained her usual excellent habit: if she couldn't figure it out, she wouldn't think about it. Since it had nothing to do with her life, freedom, or future, she couldn't be bothered to waste the energy. Now that Qi Mo was conveniently away, it was time to relax.

Instantly casting aside her bad mood, she leisurely slipped into Qi Mo's computer room. Even though he had told her to rest these past two days, Qi Mo still hadn't let her off the hook. He wanted her to understand the internal workings of the Qi family, to enter its core. He had given her free access to this computer control center, a place that held all of the Qi family's secrets. If she were a spy or an undercover agent, she would have hit the jackpot. Unfortunately, she wasn't.

Li Xin wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the Qi family's secrets and its core. She had no desire to be a person above others, because the price to pay to get there was one she was unwilling to pay. So, she wasn't at all proactive in reviewing the files. Instead, she went online and discovered a new form of entertainment: a computer game. It was a bit childish, but the graphics were nice, perfect for passing the time.

She opened a downloaded game, but before it could load, a message box suddenly popped up on the screen. Li Xin knew this meant a new message had arrived. Qi Mo's computer room was connected to all of the Qi family's mainframes. All messages, after being filtered, would be reported here. The dozen or so machines in his computer room were monitored by Hong Ying, Huang Ying, and the others respectively.

She glanced at the color of the message. Red. That was a message reported from the area under Hong Ying's jurisdiction. Li Xin raised an eyebrow slightly. The message was covering her screen. She casually clicked it open. Since it popped up automatically, it meant the security level was low and didn't require a specific password to view, so clicking it wouldn't matter.

Mu Suixin's Whereabouts Report. The seven short words made Li Xin's expression suddenly change, her eyes flaring up. It was a report on Suixin's whereabouts! Without a second thought, she quickly refreshed the page to read it.

Mu Suixin, appeared in London, England, mid-last month. Hunted by the "Thief" organization, injured. Currently in Hong Kong, China. Reported by the head of the Asia-Pacific region.

Li Xin quickly scanned the report and shot up from her seat. Suixin was being hunted by the "Thief" organization! Hunted! Staring fixedly at the report, Li Xin took a deep breath to suppress her worry and shock. The chase was last month, and she was in Hong Kong now, so it probably wasn't anything too serious. In that instant of realization, Li Xin had never been more grateful that Qi Mo had let her familiarize herself with the Qi family's operations and enter this computer control room. Suixin, I've missed you like crazy.

Calming down, Li Xin quickly deleted the incoming report. Qi Mo had been using Suixin to threaten her for a while now. Now that she had luckily stumbled upon this, there was no way she would let this leverage fall back into Qi Mo's hands.

Suixin, now that I know where you are, everything will be much easier. A brilliant smile suddenly appeared on Li Xin's lips. It seemed the Qi family didn't place much importance on Suixin, otherwise the investigation level wouldn't be so low, and news wouldn't have taken this long to be reported. And here she thought Qi Mo cared so much about Suixin, threatening her with her for so long. But thinking about it, such a small matter was probably completely insignificant to Qi Mo. Since it wasn't important, that was great. It gave her an opportunity.

Quickly restoring everything to its original state, Li Xin walked out with a spring in her step. Hong Kong was a good place. Being able to find Suixin one step ahead of Qi Mo made her feel even better. No more being tied down, no more being threatened. Although she was now willingly his subordinate, the feeling was completely different.

"Miss Mu, where are you going? Do you need anything prepared?" The guards at the Qi family's main gate saw Li Xin walking out so brazenly with nothing. To go out, one should at least take a car, right? For the Qi family's top brass who always traveled by car, Li Xin was an oddity.

Li Xin said with a placid expression, "No need." As she spoke, she waved for them to open the gate.

The Qi family valued rules above all. Obedience was their duty. The guard in charge immediately bowed, stepped back, and opened the gate. The words of a superior were an absolute command, not to be questioned, not to be doubted, only to be obeyed.

Li Xin walked out with a serious expression and soon disappeared into the vast sea of people. The moment she was out of sight, her serious and proper demeanor vanished without a trace. In the busiest part of New York City, after a round of shopping, her appearance and clothes were completely changed. Shaking off the guards who were tailing her for protection, she headed straight for the airport. Hong Kong, here I come.

Hong Kong, one of the Four Asian Tigers, a bustling city that never sleeps, known to the Chinese as the Pearl of the Orient. A relatively international city.

The sky was just beginning to lighten. After a roughly 20-hour flight on a regular commercial plane, a revitalized Li Xin appeared at the Hong Kong airport. Taking a breath of what should be considered her homeland's air, Li Xin maintained an elegant smile on her lips as she walked quickly forward.

Driving a rented sports car, Li Xin headed directly for the location of the so-called head of the Qi family's Asia-Pacific region. She had to get the information before Qi Mo found out, and then settle Suixin in the safest place possible. This was the purpose of her risky trip. If Qi Mo found out she had run off on her own, he would probably just get rid of her, no questions asked. Speed was everything. Hopefully, by the time she had everything arranged and slipped back, Qi Mo wouldn't even have noticed.

Kowloon, a place of uncertain fame. Li Xin followed the address she had found. It turned out to be a small, bar-like establishment. It was closed in the broad daylight and looked completely inconspicuous. Li Xin really doubted if this was a Qi family subordinate. Would the Qi family be so pathetic? It was simply unbelievable. Had she made a mistake?

But she didn't know that the Qi family wasn't very interested in the Chinese market. There were too many restrictions. Moreover, this was a country with a strong independent military. It didn't need to purchase everything from them or rely on their absolute supply like other countries. Their arms couldn't fully penetrate the market, so they couldn't form a powerful force here. Thus, their presence here was relatively weak.

As for the force stationed here, it merely served as a point of contact, providing information, and facilitating relationships. After all, there were no absolute truths in this world. Today's situation could be different tomorrow. And it wasn't that they didn't purchase at all, just relatively less. There was no reason to completely abandon such a huge market.

After carefully comparing and confirming that she was not mistaken, Li Xin naturally opened the door in the morning light and walked in, as naturally as if she were entering her own home, not even drawing the attention of the passersby.

Tiptoeing into the inner room, all the locks were mere decorations to her, no more secure than paper. The place looked unremarkable from the outside, but the inner room was decent, with a hint of status.

"Brother Li, what's the matter? Calling us brothers over so early?" Her light movements halted as she neared the innermost room. A voice came from what seemed to be the living room, thick with sleepiness. Li Xin frowned slightly.

"We'll announce it when everyone's here. You sit for a while. This is a big deal," a more steady voice said.

"What is it? Give me a heads-up. Is there a problem on our end?" Urgency and surprise replaced the original sleepiness.

The steady voice said, "It's not about us, but it might be related. I heard from above that there might be a problem with the Mu Suixin matter we reported yesterday." Hiding outside the door, Li Xin was slightly stunned.

"Mu Suixin? What problem could there be? We reported the facts."

"I don't know. It's just that at 5 a.m. today, an order came from the New York headquarters. Lord Hong Ying personally issued a Level One mission: capture Mu Suixin at all costs."

Hearing this, Li Xin was greatly shocked. When she left, if she remembered correctly, Suixin's mission was only Level Five. Now it had suddenly been raised to Level One. What did that mean?

"Level One?" a surprised voice exclaimed, clearly startled. This was a very high level.

Li Xin frowned tightly, clenched her fist, and prepared to step out from the shadows. She held the sixth seat in the Qi family. Even if she was a bit below Hong Ying, she was the highest authority here. She could directly demand the information and the person. These people wouldn't have the right to refuse.

"Brother Li, what's the matter, calling us in such a hurry?" Before Li Xin could take a step, several people rushed in.

"Since you're all here, listen up. The New York headquarters suddenly issued an order this morning. First, Lord Hong Ying's Level One mission: capture Mu Suixin at all costs. Second, and most importantly, the Boss's personal order: a Level One manhunt for Miss Mu. Leave her alive."

Silence. The people listening to the order fell silent. Li Xin also fell silent. Her foot, still in mid-air, slowly retracted. Good thing she hadn't walked out just now, or she would have walked right into a trap. Li Xin rubbed her nose and silently retreated. This was not a place to linger.
